Travellers cheque

A special type of cheque that is most often drawn on one of the major currencies (e.g. EUR, USD, etc.) and can be purchased mainly from banks or some travel agencies. It is intended for travelling abroad, as it can be sold in most banks abroad, and can sometimes be used to pay for services (e.g. hotels) or in shops. When buying or selling a traveller's cheque, the relevant institution may charge a fee. If the basic rules are followed (counter-signature in the presence of a bank or shop employee + presentation of a passport), travellers cheques are considered a safer option for carrying larger amounts of foreign currency than cash.
